Immediate Help

thinkmiracle encourages you to transform your life in small incremental steps, however, there are some days which knock us to our knees. We might feel like crawling under a rock, reaching for the chocolate, the alcohol – or using other avoidance tactics. Instead, we have some techniques to share with you which naturally bring your awareness back to a state of relaxation, helping to put some perspective on your situation. No matter how bad things may be, there is an eternal calm within you that you can access at any time.

Breathe

If your thoughts are spiralling, and you are finding it difficult to relax, start to become aware of your breath. However anxious you may feel, remember anxiety cannot hurt you, and you will get through this as you have with every knock back in your life before. All you need to do is follow this simple breathing pattern. Your body will soon understand the command to relax.

Take a deep breath in through the nose to the count of four
Hold the breath for four counts
Release the breath through the mouth for six counts

These breaths can be deep and noisy. Pay attention to the sound of the inhale through the nose, feel the stillness and peace whilst you hold the breath, and hear the sound of the whooshing as the air leaves your mouth during the exhale.

Continue this cycle until you start to feel your heartbeat slow down. You are in control of your anxiety and your worries; you simply need to take charge. Imagine your worries are a bolting horse, and this breathing technique will allow you to gently take the reins. The horse will quickly and happily submit. You are always in control, and this is your main tool.

Say Thank You

The thinkmiracle programme thankfulness technique is powerful, and we recommend taking a couple of minutes each morning to say thank you in your head; it will change your state of mind. Say thank you for all the positive things in your life, and also the elements which have tested you. Being thankful and realising how much you already have immediately enhances happiness. Saying thank you opens your heart, and helps us to realise the gift we have been given each and every day. Once we have an open heart, we are able to manifest the life we desire.

Be in Nature

Walking mindfully in nature allows us to feel the rhythm of mother earth. Whenever you can, walking with your feet in water, feeling the grass under your feet, sand between your toes, or brushing your palms against leaves as you pass by. Listening to the sound of the birds, river or waves and most importantly to yourself. Within 15 minutes stresses and worries begin to dissipate into the wind. Of course, the problems do not disappear, but your perception of them becomes less and you give your mind a rest. Be gentle with your soul.

Seek Inspiration

If getting into nature isn’t an option, the next go-to trick for immediate help is to be inspired – reading poetry is a great way to do this. Words are powerful and can give us great strength, and we can all find words that mean something to us. The ‘Life Poems’ section including ‘Ready or Not’ by Michael Josephson which is Mark’s big inspiration (watch Mark’s intro video to hear why). There are also two of Mark’s own poems, and we encourage you to write and share yours.

Tune into Meditation

Free guided meditations are available on this site, and can help to immediately calm a troubled mind. You will find meditations to listen to at night time, which offer positive affirmations as you fall asleep. This is especially useful, because sleep is often the main thing that eludes us when we are worried, and a lack of sleep renders us less able to heal or deal with difficulties. The meditations are there to refresh both your body and mind.

Repeat a Positive Affirmation

Repetition is a very powerful tool, and the following chants and affirmations will help when you are feeling overwhelmed. You can repeat them in your head, or you can say them aloud. If you are musically inclined, you can choose to sing them. Select one that suits your particular worry, and then repeat the affirmation over and over. The words are very powerful, and soon your brain will surrender, with it releasing a wonderful whoosh of endorphins and serotonin.
